While originally from opposite ends of the world — Nana was born in Taipei and Douglas was born in Toronto — these two found their way to each other when Douglas met Nana at the Christmas party of the gym that he used to go to for obstacle race training. The rest, as they say, is history. Douglas says fell in love with Nana because she brings a good, warm vibe and makes him feel comfortable even on his worst days. In turn, Douglas shares the same core values in life as Nana and he brings stability to the relationship. On their big day, they longed to combine the Western and Chinese cultures, and with the help from the brilliant minds at Designed Dream Events, they were able to fulfill all of their wedding dreams, and then some, resulting in one stunner of a celebration at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex. After a cinematic-worthy first look, the couple embarked on their romantic photo session that blended old world glamour with urban elegance.
From the Couple: Looking back, we feel so much more gratitude for the opportunity to bring family and close friends from all over to celebrate our union. Every time we look at the photos and videos, we are reminded of how special that day was for us. It really wouldn’t have been the same without the hard work from our wedding planners and vendors!
Beautiful blooms, rose petals, and romantic candlelight were the perfect accessories to the couple’s ceremony.
The newlyweds’ reception reflects their love for each other and their culture in every way. They combined a pastel palette of soft whimsical pinks with a bold red that represents luck in the Chinese culture that showed up in the gorgeous florals from Precious Flowers. To combine the Western and Chinese cultures, Designed Dream Wedding used the combination of the colours in the design, incorporated the traditional “door game” and “tea ceremony”, displayed the Chinese decor on the receiving table, presented a Chinese food station during the cocktail hour, and prepared Chinese favours for all guests. Before dancing to the music from Roy Pro MC, the guests were treated to a delectable cake from Fine Cakes By Zehra. And while it started to rain when they arrived at the venue, the couple was not upset at all. Instead, they enjoyed the rain and considered it as the good luck for their marriage!
From the Couple: Our favourite design detail was seeing the arrangement of the head table come to life. Although we had some idea after the initial planning sessions, the end result was more beautiful than imagined. From the hexagonal arch to the way the flowers were laid out, it was a sight to behold from both sides of the table.
