Ah, winter: Canada’s favourite of the four seasons! Although summer is still the most popular season for wedding receptions, the industry is seeing more and more couples opting for winter nuptials (as showcased in our real wedding features over the last month or so). As we’ve all seen, winter weddings can truly be spectacular!
On that note, are you considering a winter wedding but wondering where to start looking for a venue? We’ve got you covered! Below, we present our hand-picked list of the seven top winter wedding venues in Toronto and the GTA!
Happy planning!
Estates of Sunnybrook
When choosing a winter wedding location, you need to find an indoor space that is warm, inviting and makes your guests feel at home. The Estates of Sunnybrook offer an intimate wedding locale and the elegant appointments provide a stunning backdrop for your big day. Even in winter, the sun shines through the large, glass windows flooding with natural light while also providing your guests with a gorgeous view of the natural wooded surroundings.
Hockley Valley
Hockley Valley Resort is made for winter weddings! With over 300 acres of beautiful countryside, there’s certainly no shortage of photo taking opportunities. The onsite Ballrooms are versatile and can accommodate just about any vision for your big day. Another big pro is the overnight accommodations
Fantasy Farms
Fantasy Farm sits on approximately 1500 acres of conservation land of the Don Valley. We asked them why their venue was perfect for a winter wedding and they simply answered “The grounds are so picturesque, even in the winter snow” and we couldn’t agree more!
Waterside Inn
Nestled on the shores of Lake Ontario in Mississauga is the gorgeous, The Waterside Inn. Marlene Barcelos, Social Catering Sales Manager tell us “We’re great for winter weddings because everything can be accommodated on site – ceremony and reception and the wedding couple receives a complimentary overnight suite and guests are offered special rates as well so no one needs to venture outside (unless they really want to!). We also offer the use of a penthouse suite for photos.”
Hart House
Hart House is located on the St. George campus of the University of Toronto. Known as a “stunning Gothic Revival building” the venue offers receptions for up to 280 guests. Devon Strachan, Weddings & Event Coordinator, says “Hart House winter brides delight in spectacular wood burning fireplaces, gorgeous stone architecture for splendid indoor photographs, and ornate timbered ceilings. The perfect combination of rustic glamour to take guests breath away”.
Glenerin Inn
The The Glenerin Inn & Spa‘s tagline says it all: an elegant retreat in an historic urban setting. “This historical site is intimate and charming for a winter wedding with fireplaces in the main wedding spaces and public areas. We can accommodate the entire wedding under one roof from ceremony to guest accommodations to a spectacular dining and dancing experience” says Pat Cluett, Director of Sales and Marketing. In addition to the beautiful indoor locations, the outdoors offers many spectacular locations for photos among the back drop of snow covered trees.
The Briars
A short drive north of Toronto, on the shores of Lake Simcoe, is the charming Briars Resort & Spa. Whether you’re wedding is a small and intimate affair or larger-scale reception, the Briars has different options to suit any style of wedding. The rooms can be decorated in the style of your choosing to reflect the season (the Great Hall includes a fireplace!) and as Amanda Grey, Marketing and Partnership Development tell us “all couples need to do is arrange for a DJ, flowers and a photographer, and the Briars takes care of the rest!” Their beautiful grounds and historic landscape are perfect for outdoor photos!
