When you first get engaged everything feels like it’s happening so fast. From the moment you say ‘yes!’ there is a flurry of activity that doesn’t seem to stop until you both say ‘I do.’ Once engaged, there are a few things you should do right after that will ultimately set you up for success during the rest of the wedding planning!
Step 1– Tell the Important People:
There is nothing worse than hearing about your best friend’s engagement through Facebook. In the age of social media, it can be tempting to post everything in real-time, but we suggest taking a minute to tell the really important people in person so that they don’t feel blindsided by seeing your happy news on their insta feed. Make a list of the VIPs and make sure everyone is radio silent until that list is complete – think parents, siblings, besties, and important family members.
Step 2– Insure your Ring:
Okay, this one is kind of boring, but it’s important! Make sure you insure your ring so that if anything happens to it (knock on wood) you don’t have to worry about replacing it at cost! Many jewelers will offer a care plan that covers cleaning, as well as wear and tear but you should also look into replacement insurance in case the piece is lost or stolen.
Step 3– Celebrate just the Two of You:
Before you start telling people, take a beat and celebrate just the two of you. If the proposal was public, grab a bottle of bubbles and spend some quality time with just each other before you tell the world.
Step 4– Grab your Friends:
You probably already have an idea of who your bridal party will be, so gather them to celebrate as well! You don’t have to solidify any plans yet, but having your close friends celebrate with you will help your engagement continue to feel special.

Step 5– Spread the News:
Okay, now you can throw up that swoon-worthy ring post on Instagram. Enjoy the influx of congratulations and well wishes from people you haven’t talked to since high school and get ready to start planning your wedding!
BONUS– Get Excited to Get Engaged!:
This is the most important one! Once the waves of excitement have calmed from the initial engagement, it is time to think about what you want from your wedding. Sit down with your fiancé (!!), crack some champers, and dive into a Pinterest hole. Let the fun begin!
